Short version: MegaWifi Uploader collects nothing, sends nothing to the internet, and tracks nothing. The app reads only the ROM files you explicitly pick from the document browser, and only to flash them onto your MegaWifi cartridge over your local Wi-Fi network.
1. Information collected
None. MegaWifi Uploader does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personally identifiable information. The app does not contain analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, crash-reporting services, telemetry, remote configuration, or any other third-party data-collection components.
2. Files
When you tap Browse and pick a ROM file, iOS hands the app a copy of that file (the document picker is opened with asCopy: YES). The copy is loaded into memory so the app can stream it to the cartridge. If the file is a .zip, .7z, .rar, or .gz archive, the contents are decompressed entirely in memory — the extracted ROM bytes never touch the device's storage.
- The selected file is read directly from your local device, iCloud Drive, or any file-provider extension you have installed.
- File contents and names are used only inside the app for the duration of the upload, and dropped from memory when the app exits.
- Archive decompression happens in RAM via libarchive (zip / 7z / gzip) or the RARLAB unrar source (rar); the archive's per-entry CRC32 is verified before any byte is sent to the cartridge.
- Nothing about the file you load is uploaded to the internet, transmitted to the developer, or shared with any third party. The bytes go from the iPhone's RAM straight to the cartridge over your local Wi-Fi network.
3. Local network
MegaWifi Uploader connects to your MegaWifi cartridge over plain TCP on your local Wi-Fi network. On iOS 14 and later this requires Local Network permission, which iOS will prompt for on first launch.
- The only network traffic the app generates is the TCP socket to the IP address you typed in the host field, on the port you specified (default 1989).
- The protocol carried on that socket is the documented wflash WiFi loader protocol — bootloader address query, ROM erase, programming chunks, and the AUTORUN command. No other traffic is sent.
- The app makes no other network connections of any kind — no DNS, no HTTPS, no analytics ping, no license check, nothing. If you put the iPhone in airplane mode and reconnect only to your local Wi-Fi, the app still works.
You can revoke Local Network permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → MegaWifi Uploader. Revoking it leaves the rest of the app working, but the Write button will fail with a connect error.
4. Internet use
MegaWifi Uploader does not make any outbound internet connections. The app contains no in-app purchases, no advertising, no telemetry, no remote configuration, no license-server check-ins, and no other server communication. All traffic stays on your local Wi-Fi network between the iPhone and the cartridge.
5. On-device state
The app remembers one piece of state locally between launches: the last cartridge IP address you typed (so the next session starts pre-populated). This data lives entirely on your device in iOS's UserDefaults store and is removed when you uninstall the app.
6. Children's privacy
Because the app collects no information of any kind, it does not knowingly collect information from children, and it complies with applicable children's privacy laws (including COPPA and the GDPR-K provisions of the EU GDPR).
7. Data retention and deletion
Because no personal data is collected, there is nothing to retain or delete on the developer's side. All in-app state lives entirely on your device — in iOS UserDefaults and the temporary file the document picker hands the app — and is removed when you uninstall MegaWifi Uploader.
8. Third-party services
MegaWifi Uploader does not embed third-party SDKs or services that collect user data. The app uses Apple's built-in iOS frameworks (Foundation, UIKit, SceneKit, UniformTypeIdentifiers, and POSIX sockets for the TCP transfer) and a small set of open-source decompression libraries — libarchive and liblzma (both BSD-licensed) for .zip / .7z / .gz, and the RARLAB unrar source for .rar. None of these libraries make any network connections.
9. Code signing
MegaWifi Uploader is signed with the developer's Apple Developer ID and distributed through the App Store. iOS verifies the signature on install. The app runs in iOS's standard app sandbox with no entitlements that would allow it to access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or any privacy-protected resource beyond Local Network access and the files you explicitly pick.
10. Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL and the "Last updated" date below will change. Because the app collects no data, material changes are not anticipated.
