S612 Librarian — Privacy Policy

What S612 Librarian does and does not do with your information.

Short version: S612 Librarian collects nothing, sends nothing, and tracks nothing. The app reads only the audio files and Music library tracks you explicitly pick from its browser, and only to send them as samples to the Akai S-612 sampler over USB-MIDI on your device.

1. Information collected

None. S612 Librarian does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personally identifiable information. The app does not contain analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, crash-reporting services, telemetry, remote configuration, or any other third-party data-collection components.

2. Apple Music library access

When you open the file picker and tap a song in the Music Library section, iOS prompts you for permission to access your Apple Music library. If you grant permission, S612 Librarian lists the DRM-free synced songs in your library through the built-in picker so you can use them as source material for samples.

You can revoke Apple Music library access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Media & Apple Music → S612 Librarian.

3. Files and drag-and-drop

When you pick an audio file from the Files browser, drop a file onto the picker from another iOS app, or open a .sin bank file from another app's share sheet, iOS grants S612 Librarian temporary read access to that file. The file is loaded into the app's editor so you can trim and send it.

4. USB-MIDI

S612 Librarian uses CoreMIDI to talk to USB-MIDI interfaces plugged into the iPhone via a Lightning-to-USB or USB-C-to-USB adapter. MIDI traffic (the SysEx upload, the SysEx dump, and the rate-select Note On / Off) flows only between the iPhone and the connected hardware on your desk. No MIDI data is recorded, retained beyond the operation, or transmitted off-device.

5. Network use

S612 Librarian does not make any network connections of any kind. The app contains no in-app purchases, no advertising, no telemetry, no remote configuration, no license-server check-ins, and no other server communication. The app runs entirely offline.

6. On-device state

The app remembers two pieces of state locally between launches: the display names of the last MIDI input and output devices you bound (so they can be rebound automatically when the hardware reappears), and a small list of recently picked audio sources stored as security-scoped URL bookmarks (so the recents section in the picker stays useful). This data lives entirely on your device in iOS's UserDefaults store and is removed when you uninstall the app.

7. Children's privacy

Because the app collects no information of any kind, it does not knowingly collect information from children, and it complies with applicable children's privacy laws (including COPPA and the GDPR-K provisions of the EU GDPR).

8. Data retention and deletion

Because no personal data is collected, there is nothing to retain or delete on the developer's side. All in-app state lives entirely on your device — in iOS UserDefaults and the app's sandboxed Documents folder — and is removed when you uninstall S612 Librarian.

9. Third-party services

S612 Librarian does not embed third-party SDKs or services that collect user data. The app only uses Apple's built-in iOS frameworks (Foundation, UIKit, SwiftUI, AVFoundation, MediaPlayer, CoreMIDI, SceneKit) to function.

10. Code signing

S612 Librarian is signed with the developer's Apple Developer ID and distributed through the App Store. iOS verifies the signature on install. The app runs in iOS's standard app sandbox with no entitlements that would allow it to access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or any privacy-protected resource beyond the Music library and the files you explicitly pick.

11. Changes to this policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL and the "Last updated" date below will change. Because the app collects no data, material changes are not anticipated.
